Join Ecuador's National Mapathon to update open maps and enhance emergency preparedness and decision-making.
The Annual National Anticipatory Mapathons (MANA) are a regional strategy led by the HOT LAC Hub to strengthen disaster preparedness through open data, community engagement, and institutional collaboration.
In Ecuador, the National Anticipatory Mapathon is implemented in coordination with the National Secretariat for Risk Management, Segura EP, Autonomous Decentralized Governments (GADs), GeomapEspe, and OpenlabEC. This multi-institutional effort focuses on updating OpenStreetMap data to support preparedness and response during emergencies.
Through weekly mapping sessions, volunteers and local mappers contribute critical information on buildings, roads, and other infrastructure. The updated data enhances situational awareness, supports decision-making, and strengthens Ecuador’s capacity to respond to natural disasters using open, validated, and accessible geospatial information.
